Yorkshire Water has 120 reservoirs, operates more than 700 water and sewage treatment works and has over 62,000 miles of water and sewerage mains. To look after this network, they currently employ over 3,000 people from their head office and numerous other locations throughout Yorkshire and the UK.
They manage the collection, treatment and distribution of water in Yorkshire, supplying around 1.24 billion litres of drinking water each day – that’s a lot of water. At the same time they also collect, treat and dispose of about one billion litres of waste water safely back into the environment. Between 2015 and 2020 they will spend £3.8 billion across the Yorkshire region to deliver better water and sewerage services. This investment programme will play a key role in boosting the regional economy as the investment and expenditure is being retained within Yorkshire.
Working for Yorkshire Water, however, isn’t just about fixing leaks as they are much more than that! They have staffing roles that vary from building brand strategy, optimising processes to working in the heart of their customer contact centre; they have got lots of jobs to suit all different types of skill sets.
At the beginning
When we first began working with Yorkshire Water they had a mixed approach to their recruitment. Occasionally they would advertise a role directly but in the main they used recruitment agencies to fill their vacancies. This was very costly and meant that people didn’t see them as direct employer.
With a strong brand in the market place, the decision to take control of their recruitment and establish themselves as an employer of choice was made. The benefits of this are being felt year on year.
Getting in all the right places
With numerous vacancies each month across such a diverse business, we provide a flexible recruitment advertising solution that ensures each job is placed in the right place. From national job boards to specialist publications, we provide an advertising strategy that allows the business to select the most effective solution that fits with the budget.
Over the years the advertising that we have carried out has allowed the business to build a talent pool. In turn, this has allowed us to reduce the advertising budget in line with requirements of the role.
Delivering Best Value
With a strong recruitment brand in the market place people now see Yorkshire Water adverts on jobboards and will naturally look for vacancies directly on their careersite. This is the power of brand association and has allowed a reduction in the amount of jobboards used which has directly reduced the amount of money that is spent on advertising.
